A music video and album cover studio in Paris

Léopold Dumont, a graphic designer and musician, founded the studio in Paris in 2016. It works between image and sound, making music videos, album covers, logos and websites for artists, independent labels and cultural organizations.

Work starts with listening to the record, before the brief and before any references. That listening decides how a video is framed, which typeface goes on a sleeve and what color a cover takes. It is also why the studio's projects hold together from one format to the next.

Influences

The studio's look comes from minimal graphic design and independent music culture. Its references run from the visual arts to documentary photography and editorial design, with a preference for forms that stay legible once shrunk to the size of a thumbnail.

The studio works with photography, drawing and painting, and for a few years now with generative AI, which it treats as one technique among others. AI supplies raw material that composition, art direction and finishing then rework by hand. TPF, a generative music installation in which every pass produces a different melody, is one example. The responsible design manifesto sets out this position.

Aesthetic approach

Each project is handled on its own terms, with no template carried over from one client to the next. Proposals are refined as the conversation goes on, until the cover, the logo or the site fits the music it accompanies.

The studio's Instagram account shows work in progress, graphic and sonic, as it happens in Léopold Dumont's workshop.
