What this list is, and what it isn't

A prompt isn't a recipe. It's a starting point. The Midjourney prompts below were tested on real AI-assisted visual design projects: album covers, visual identities for artists, campaign visuals for independent labels. They work in the sense that they produce usable directions, not in the sense that they produce the same image every time. Generative models are probabilistic. Run the same prompt twice and you get two different results.

What the list does offer is a look at how an effective prompt for music packaging is built: which style descriptors carry weight, which stylistic references the model understands, which technical parameters affect what. The point isn't to copy and paste these phrasings, but to understand their logic so you can write your own. The official Midjourney documentation covers the syntax and the technical parameters used here.

The prompt produces a proposal. The work starts when you decide what to do with it: what to keep, what to drop, how to refine.

Anatomy of a good album cover prompt

Effective Midjourney prompts for album covers share the same architecture: a subject or scene, a rendering style, an aesthetic or period reference, technical constraints (format, palette), and Midjourney parameters. Leaving one of these out won't necessarily break the prompt, but adding it with precision almost always makes the results more relevant. The trick is to be precise about style and vague about composition, especially early on. The model gets more inventive with the compositional details you don't impose on it.

How to use this list

These 50 phrasings are structures, not formulas. The method is simple: take the skeleton of a prompt that matches the stylistic direction you're after, swap the content (subject, scene, musical references) for the ones in your project, and adjust the parameters to the amount of exploration you want.

The --chaos parameter deserves particular attention. At 0, the model produces images close to one another, useful for refining a direction you've already found. At 25 or above, the variations get radical, useful when you're still exploring. --style raw turns down Midjourney's automatic prettifying and gives rawer results that are easier to work with in retouching. To go further than this list, the creative AI pages show how to build custom prompts, including advanced parameters, negative prompting and style reference techniques (--sref).

A generated image is only worth what you impose on it. Art direction comes before the prompt, not after.

What this list doesn't replace

Copy-pasted prompts produce generic images. That isn't a judgment, it's how generative models work. An identical prompt used by thousands of people produces a statistically shared space of results. What separates a singular result from an ordinary one is how precisely the prompt encodes a vision that belongs to whoever wrote it: their references, their aesthetic constraints, their intentions.

That precision can't be faked. It's built from visual culture, from knowing which references the model has absorbed, and from being able to judge quickly whether a result fits the original vision. Regular practice develops it.

Go beyond copy-paste: the creative AI pages show how to build your own prompt templates, fitted to your visual world and your actual projects.
